The conference is organised under the framework of the European Climate and Energy Modelling Forum (ECMF) and brings together the European climate-energy modelling community, policy makers and key stakeholders.
ECEMP 2026 focuses on the role of energy and climate models in a context of increasing systemic stress, where climate change impacts, geopolitical instability, energy security concerns and industrial competitiveness interact and challenge long-term transition pathways.
Against this backdrop, the conference provides a space to discuss how modelling can support robust, transparent and policy-relevant decision-making for Europe’s energy transition.
The thematic focus of ECEMP 2026 is “Climate Change, Energy Security and Competitiveness: Modelling an Energy System under Stress”. Contributions will explore how different modelling approaches address trade-offs between decarbonisation objectives, economic performance, security of supply and social impacts, particularly in the short- and medium-term policy horizon beyond 2030. The conference also aims to foster dialogue on model interoperability, comparison of results across frameworks, and the integration of socio-economic dimensions into energy system analysis.
ECEMP 2026 is open to researchers, analysts, policy institutions, European projects and other stakeholders working on energy and climate modelling.
A call for abstracts is open until 12 June 2026. Notifications of acceptance are expected in August 2026, followed by participant registration ahead of the conference. Abstracts can be submitted without the requirement of a full paper, and selected contributions may be invited to submit extended papers to special issues of peer-reviewed journals associated with the conference.
The event will be held in a hybrid format. On-site participation in Brussels is primarily intended for speakers and project representatives, while remote participation will be available for a wider audience. This format is designed to ensure broad accessibility while maintaining a strong exchange among contributors.
