Mopo took the lead for the organization of ECEMP 2024* cooperating with its sister project iDesignRES, the ECEMF** and the Efect***.
Held in a hybrid format, in Brussels and online, this two-day annual conference serves to discuss the latest research trends and policy-relevant findings obtained from analyses of climate and energy models.
Mopo’s project coordinator Juha Kiviluoma (VTT) presented the interoperability of data sets in energy and climate models. The common data format developed by the project – the “ines spec” – is intended to be a data format that can be used by different models. This interoperability implies better interactions and comparisons among different models.
The conference focused on the Policies to Reach Climate Neutrality on Day 1, and the Frontiers in Energy and Climate Modelling on Day 2, with three plenary sessions to set the energy scenario and four parallel sessions dedicated to more specific topics or sectors (e.g. industry, policy…).
The ECEMP conference was co-hosted by the European Commission through the Directorate-General for Energy, the Directorate-General for Climate Action, the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, and the European Climate Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).
The final goal of this conference was to highlight to what extent the widespread implementation of renewable energy technologies, enhanced energy efficiency, and bolstered energy security are crucial to achieving climate neutrality. This will require substantial investments in energy infrastructure and the promotion of innovation in the energy transition.
In this context, energy and climate models such as those developed by the Mopo project provide essential guidance for navigating the way to a carbon-neutral future.
